African Catfish Technical Expert (Breeding)

Overview
D’King Unipessoal Lda. (D’King) is a local company located in Caicoli, Dili that produces African catfish fingerling. With the support from Market Development Facility (MDF), D’King is currently expanding the facility to increase the production. To support the expansion, D’King is looking to hire a technical expert in African catfish breeding. 

 

Objective
The objective of the assignment is to support the company (D’King) to increase productivity of African catfish fingerling production.

 

Responsible
A technical expert will support the objective by adapting and/or developing in-house written guide, providing technical advice, implementing, and assisting the company on fingerling production. Advisory support must cover at least 5 (five) topics of technical aspects, such as:

• Broodfish management (including stocking, feeding, recruitment, population management, and selection for spawning);   
• Induced breeding (natural propagation and/ or artificial propagation method);
• Nursing and fingerling production (nursing in concrete and/or other types of ponds);
• Disease identification and prevention; and
• Transport of fry, nurse fry, and fingerling.

 

Duration and Location
The technical expert will be required to provide up to 20 (twenty) days of inputs. Input days are likely to be split (not continuous) and subject to discussion with D’King. The expert will mostly perform the tasks at D’King hatchery in Caicoli, Dili.   

 

Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria: 

• Have an educational background in aquaculture and/ or strong knowledge of and experience in African catfish fingerling production
• Be based in Dili, Timor-Leste
• Good written and verbal communication skills in Tetun (and good written and verbal communication skills in English preferred)

• Produsaun ikan oan no hakiak (hakiak iha tanke halo husi simentu ka tipu tanki seluk);
• Identifikasaun ba moras iha ikan lele no medidas prevensaun; no
• Transporta ikan lele tolun, ikan lele oan induk, ikan induk.
