Background
The Asia Foundation is a nonprofit international development organization committed to improving lives across a dynamic and developing Asia. Informed by six decades of experience and deep local expertise, our work across the region is focused on good governance, women’s empowerment and gender equality, inclusive economic growth, environment and climate action, and regional and international relations. Headquartered in San Francisco, The Asia Foundation works through a network of offices in 18 Asian countries and in Washington, DC.
The Asia Foundation has worked in Timor-Leste since 1992. We are implementing programs in the areas of violence against women and children, inclusive tourism development, fostering lasting peace, safety and security, public policy, and strengthening accountable governance.
Summary of Assignment
The Foundation is currently seeking qualified translators and interpreters (company or independent contractor/consultant) to serve as preferred supplier of translation and/or interpreting services for our various programs and operational needs. We intend to enter into one or more indefinite duration, indefinite quantity contracts for a period of two years (with possible extension up to three years) with entities who can provide the deliverables as outlined below.
Responsibilities
Translation and/or interpreting services:
Translation:
- Tetum – English / English – Tetum
- English – Portuguese / Portuguese – English
- Tetum – Portuguese / Portuguese – Tetum
- Areas of expertise: General, legal, peace and security, access to justice, economic development, violence against women and children
Interpreting:
- Consecutive and simultaneous
- Tetum – English / English – Tetum
- Area of expertise: Peace & security, access to justice
- Based in Dili, Timor-Leste
Requirements
- Mother tongue speaker in one of the languages of each language pair.
- At least 5 years professional experience in translation and/or interpreting.
- Experience in one or more of the areas of expertise: General, legal, peace and security, access to justice, economic development, violence against women and children
- Legally entitled to work in the country where they are based.
Timeframe
Period of two (possibly three) years. Indefinite quantity of work.
