Position Title: MANAAKI Project Assistants (2 Positions)
Supervisor: Program Manager
Term: 12 months, fixed term
Location: Bobonaro and Liquica,Timor-Leste

Position Summary

This position will support the implementation of the MANAAKI funded project titled: Enhancing
climate resilience of coastal communities in Timor-Leste through Improved MPA management,
livelihood support, and fisheries management.


The project goal is to establish the foundation required to deliver improved marine protection and management, improved livelihoods and resilience of fishers and their communities in TimorLeste, as well as improved, climate-sensitive, shared fisheries management between TimorLeste and Indonesia. The project comprises 3 medium-term outcomes: 1) MPA management is improved; 2) Communities possess food security and improved nutrition; and 3) Trans-boundary communities have agreed to collaborate on management of fisheries.
 

This position will work under the direction of Program Manager and Project Coordinator to carry out day-to-day field outreach activities to local communities and local authorities and support data collection for M&E purposes. The Project Assistants will act as the project point persons in the field. They will be responsible for promoting project activities, organizing community meetings, following up on Activity delivery, and communicating any change in the field that may affect the project scope.


This position will also in-charge to provide general administrative support to the Project Manager and Project Coordinator to help implement project deliverables. Assist in drafting routine communications and handling everyday project materials/documents. Assist with project monitoring, compiling data, and drafting non-technical status reports. Provide logistical support for field learning events including, and assist with field event communications, field travel logistics, and reporting.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and assist the Project Coordinator and Program Manager in ensuring effective and efficient implementation of MANAAKI project as assigned to this position, including coordination with CI staff, local communities and government. 
  • Carry out day-to-day field outreach activities to local communities and local authorities
    and support implementation of planned activities and initiate onsite interaction with
    targeted communities and project partners.
     
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluating the implementation and impact of project activities.
  • Work with the Operations team to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of CI equipment and resources while applying internal systems, structures and standard operating procedures.
  • Support an organizational culture that reflects our full spectrum programming values, theory of change, promotes accountability and high performance, encourages a team culture of learning, creativity and innovation.
  • Liaise with communities and local authorities on a day-to-day basis and ensure active engagement of stakeholders to mobilize resources, and coordinate activities.
  • Successfully submit on time monthly reports to supervisor
  • Collect data and information from the field/providing input in the completion of the progress reports and potential projects.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
Required Skills and Capabilities
  • Secondary School education or Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Conservation, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Protected Areas, Biodiversity, Forestry, Fisheries, or other related field.
  • Up to 3 years of related work experience, preferably in the conservation, NGO, or advocacy arena.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Solid attention to detail and strong research and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.
  • Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Service focus. Courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, web research, and related skills.
  • Fluency in English and Tetum
 
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience working with communities, especially coastal communities and those communities living within protected areas.
  • Experience working on community development through biodiversity protection and sustainable livelihoods are a strong benefit.
 
Other Information
  • This position is based in Bobonaro / Liquica with occasional travel to Dili.
