Position Title: MANAAKI Project Coordinator
Supervisor: Program Manager
Term: 12 months, fixed term
Location: Bobonaro, Timor-Leste
Position Summary
This position will coordinate the implementation of the MANAAKI funded project titled: Enhancing climate resilience of coastal communities in Timor-Leste through Improved MPA management, livelihood support, and fisheries management.
The project goal is to establish the foundation required to deliver improved marine protection and management, improved livelihoods and resilience of fishers and their communities in TimorLeste, as well as improved, climate-sensitive, shared fisheries management between TimorLeste and Indonesia. The project comprises 3 medium-term outcomes: 1) MPA management is improved; 2) Communities possess food security and improved nutrition; and 3) Trans-boundary communities have agreed to collaborate on management of fisheries.
This position will work under the direction of Program Manager to carry out day-to-day project management, ensuring the timely implementation of project activities, coordinate the monitoring of project progress and results. The Project Coordinator will lead field engagement activities with communities and guide engagement activities with CI’s partners, consultants, and grantees in the field.
This position will also in-charge to provide technical, administrative, and related support as needed. Perform research and analyse and summarize key findings. Organize conference calls and team/committee meetings; manage agendas, logistics, minutes, and reporting. Support program learning events including managing communications, field travel and meetings logistics, and related event expenses.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and assist the Program Manager in ensuring effective and efficient implementation of MANAAKI project as assigned to this position, including coordination with CI staff, partner communities, government, and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Program Manager in developing the project’s detailed workplan and reporting against the progression of the work plan, and expenditure of the budget.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluating the implementation and impact of project activities.
- Work with the Operations team to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of CI equipment and resources while applying internal systems, structures, and standard operating procedures.
- Support an organizational culture that reflects our full spectrum programming values, theory of change, promotes accountability and high performance, encourages a team culture of learning, creativity, and innovation.
- Support in facilitating learning and sharing on key issues for advocacy, adoption and/or replication of best practices.
- Liaise with communities and local authorities on a day-to-day basis and ensure active engagement of stakeholders to mobilize resources, and coordinate activities.
- Successfully submit on time monthly reports and budget expenditure reports, to supervisor, and donor reports when required.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills and Capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Protected Areas, Biodiversity, Forestry or Fisheries.
- 2 - 4 years of related work experience, preferably in the conservation, NGO, or advocacy arena.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Solid attention to detail and strong research and proofreading skills.
- Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.
- Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.
- Service focus. Courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.
- Proficiency with MS Office, web research, and related skills.
- Fluency in English and Tetum.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience working with communities, especially coastal communities and those communities living within protected areas.
- Expertise in aspects community development through biodiversity protection and sustainable livelihoods are a strong benefit.
Other Information
- This position is based in Bobonaro with frequent travel to Liquica and occasional travel to Dili.
