Communications Intern
- MDF has two internship opportunities for three months’ duration starting from August 2024 - monthly stipend included.

About Market Development Facility (MDF)
The Market Development Facility (MDF) is a multi-country initiative which promotes sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries across the Indo-Pacific.
We support partners from business and government to identify and grow commercial opportunities that are profitable, scalable and deliver social and of environmental value. We currently work in Fiji, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Samoa, Vanuatu and Tonga.
MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) and co-funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu. It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact.
About the Opportunity
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Intern
This will support monitoring and evaluation activities in agriculture and tourism sectors. The opportunity to learn on-the-job skills will include:
- Supporting the M&E team to monitor progress and results of interventions, particularly through field visits.
- Working with M&E and implementation team in conducting scoping activities for new interventions through field visits and/or online data collection.
- Ensuring the data collected from the field is entered accurately for analyses.
Communication Intern
This will support MDF’s communications and media engagement. The opportunity to learn on-the-job communications experience will include:
- Assisting Communication Specialist in producing MDF’s communication products and materials: story of significance change, photo essays and other MDF’s materials
- Providing support to deliver communication campaigns such as Coffee Berry Borer and other campaign initiatives.
- Co-lead communication sessions on photography and videography with MDF’s Communication Specialist.
- Coordinating with partners and MDF’s external design and video resources: photos, videos, photo essays, infographics, etc.
- Travel when required – for field stories, high-level visit coverage and other requirements.
- Developing social media content fit with MDF’s social media strategy.
- Supporting MDF’s staff promoting MDF’s brand guideline internally.
About you
MDF is looking for enthusiastic university graduates with a desire to learn and a keen interest in development in Timor-Leste. In addition, successful interns will have:
• A relevant degree aligned to the preferred internship opportunity.
• Graduated within the last two years, with a minimum Grade Point average of 3.0
• Good skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Excellent written and spoken Tetun language skills.
• Willingness to travel regularly and extensively within Timor-Leste.
Desirable Criteria
6. Experience with fieldwork, research and data collection.
7. Good written and spoken English language skills.

This position is open to nationals and permanent residents with authority to live and work in Timor Leste. Rates of pay are based on local labour standards.
