Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Safe Cities Programme Analyst or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Safe Campus Officer will:
- Contribute to supporting the Safe Cities Programme Analyst to coordinate the UNTL Safe Campus Technical Working Group (TWG) (support to planning and organizing the quarterly Working Group meetings and monthly coordination meeting with coordination meeting with UNTL SCI Focal point/s, documenting minutes, collecting data, monitoring activities, and meeting with students, faculty and Working Group Members). This support to provide technical assistance to UNTL SCI Focal Point/s to operate UNTL SCI secretariat (30%)
- Support the implementation of the UN Women- UNTL MoU on Safe Campus Initiative and documentation of changes, submitting monthly updates on progress against the MoU Workplan. (15%)
- Organizing monthly learning sessions with different centers (Human Rights Campus, Uma Amerika, Centro Estudu Jéneru/ Gender Study Centre, etc,) for raising student awareness and knowledge-sharing on issues of sexual harassment and violence on campus and public spaces, and domestic violence. This will involve coordination with the Joint UN Together for Equality Project partners (UN Women, UNDP, UNFPA, IOM) and the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative partners (UN Women, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, ILO), and other EVAW Programmes (15%)
- Support communications specialist to organize, conduct training and monitor changes with journalism and media students on gender equitable reporting. (20%)
- Support background research, coordination, documentation of project results for monitoring and reporting and sharing with KOICA and other external partners toward improved evidence of results from the Safe Campus Initiative. This will include contributing to assessments and planning for capacity development with UNTL across campuses and facilitating briefing sessions for partners on Safe Campus topics, as needed (20%).

Secondary school completion or bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. in social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, international development, or a related field; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

- A minimum of 2 years of paid working experience (or Secondary Education plus 4 years work experience) in a relevant field (development programme/project planning and implementation, coordination, advocacy, monitoring and reporting).
- Experience working in academic institutions, the UN or other international development organization is an asset;
- Experience in gender equality and women’s human rights is an asset; ·
- Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and civil society is an asset.
- Experience in facilitation or adult learning methodologies is an asset
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
- Ability to coordinate events and workshops, involving multiple steps and actors;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
- Sound security awareness;
- Have affinity with or interest in gender equality, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
