Serosurvey Project Officer - Local Positions Menzies, Dili, Timor-Leste

The Menzies Global and Tropical Health (GTH) Division is committed to tackling key areas of public health concern that impact on the health and wellbeing of people and communities across northern Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. With a focus on translational research we shape our research program through close collaboration with a diverse range of healthcare providers, policy makers and researchers, to target priority health issues. Our aim is to find meaningful and relevant ways to improve the health of people in our region.
Menzies has recently opened an office in Dili, Timor-Leste. The Timor-Leste office manages three main projects, STRONG TL, the Fleming Fund Country Grant for Timor-Leste, and the ARIA-RISE serosurvey project. Other smaller projects and partnerships also run concurrently.
The ARIA-RISE serosurvey project is an investigation into the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and other vaccine-preventable diseases in Timor-Leste. It will investigate prevalence and immunity in the population of Timor-Leste, and among specific at-risk groups, with at least three separate research studies planned in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the National Health Laboratory. Data from these studies will directly inform surveillance and disease control strategies, including vaccination programs.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Serosurvey Project Coordinator, the Project Officers will have responsibility for the day-to-day coordination and implementation of research studies that are part of the ARIA-RISE serosurvey project. These include: the case and close contact study, the healthcare worker study and the community-wide seroprevalence study.
The position will be based in Dili, Timor-Leste with frequent travel to other municipalities for fieldwork.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
- Experience working in project administration, preferably in the health sector
- Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel etc)
- Understanding of basic principles of health research
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and demonstrated flexibility with work tasks
- Fluent in Tetum, with moderate English language ability
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Effective organisation skills, time management and flexibility with work tasks
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to learn
- Hold or be able to obtain a National Police Clearance certificate
- Willingness to travel to municipalities for ARIA-RISE research projects as required
- Understanding of and commitment to Menzies values, the principles of Equal Opportunity and contributing to a safe and inclusive workplace
Desirable:
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of serosurveillance and the importance of vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology
- Experience in health research
