The Development Programs are part of a wider commitment to Timor-Leste, including an Education and Training Program, a Quality Program and a Leadership and Management Program. Our work in Timor-Leste has been recognised by the Ministry of Health as amongst the most successful by a non-government agency since the country’s independence.
The Position
St John of God Social Outreach, International Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Clinical Nurse Consultant or Clinical Nurse Specialist, preferably with international development experience, to join the team as a clinician on a two year full-time contract. We are seeking experience in any of the following: general and/or specialised clinical nursing, midwifery, governance, management, quality, education, human resource management, or other specialised hospital-based skills.
Based in Timor-Leste, you will have responsibility for supporting capacity building in clinical outcomes as set out in the Development Program plans. These plans have the ultimate aim of improving patient care within the Timorese hospital system by building the capability of healthcare workers. This will be done in close collaboration and consultation with our Timorese counterparts.

The successful candidate will have:
- A commitment to and a deep understanding of the Vision, Mission and Values of SJGHC as well as a willingness to commit to understanding and working within the culture of the Timorese people.
- A nursing or midwifery qualification and be eligible for registration to practice as a nurse/midwife in Australia, and demonstrated clinical experience in a hospital setting, preferably with additional areas of specialisation.
- A willingness to commit to learning the local language, Tetun.
- Proven ability of working with people to build capacity, lead and manage outcomes at both strategic and operational levels.
- Personal attributes include the ability to be adaptable, think strategically, communicate clearly and openly, demonstrate consistency, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team to achieve and sustain professional excellence, improved patient care and positive workplace culture.
