Serosurvey Project Research Nurse, Timor-Leste (Re-Advertise)

THE PROJECTS:
The Menzies Global and Tropical Health (GTH) Division is committed to tackling key areas of public health concern that impact on the health and wellbeing of people and communities across northern Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. With a focus on translational research we shape our research program through close collaboration with a diverse range of healthcare providers, policy makers and researchers, to target priority health issues. Our aim is to find meaningful and relevant ways to improve the health of people in our region.
The Menzies Timor-Leste office currently manages three main projects, STRONG-TL, the Fleming Fund Country Grant for Timor-Leste and a seroprevalence study (ARIA-RISE), with other smaller projects and partnerships running concurrently.
The ARIA-RISE Serosurvey project (Australian Regional Immunisation Alliance - Regional Immunisation Support and Engagement) will involve research into seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 (virus causing COVID-19 infection) and select vaccine-preventable diseases including measles and hepatitis B in Timor-Leste.
ARIA-RISE will include three research studies into different populations:
SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among close contacts of confirmed cases of COVID-19
SARS-CoV-2 and vaccine-preventable diseases seroprevalence among health care workers
Population based study of SARS-CoV-2 and vaccine-preventable diseases seroprevalence in Timor-Leste
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Serosurvey Project research nurse will support the work of the ARIA-RISE research studies, including socialisation, recruitment, sample collection and transport and the processes and documentation required.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
- Graduate degree in nursing and relevant clinical experience in the field
- Proficient in performing venepuncture for blood collection
- Fluent in Tetum
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Effective organisation skills and flexibility with work tasks
- Strong communication skills
- Good time management skills, with ability to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Clear, legible handwriting and high level competence with use of computers
- Excellent data entry skills and attention to detail – thorough, careful, accurate
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures
- Initiative, good judgement and strong problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn, continuously improve and respond positively to feedback and supervision
- Ability to manage sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality
- Hold or be able to obtain a National Police Clearance certificate
- Willingness to travel to municipalities for ARIA-RISE research projects as required

- Commitment to responsible, accurate communication that maintains confidentiality of private information, promotes positive health messages, and avoids spreading false, misleading or potentially harmful information
- Skills in performing venepuncture or blood collection from children
- Previous research experience
- Existing understanding of principles of good clinical practice in research, including holding a valid certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in research
- Good conversational English
