The Program

The Australia Timor-Leste Partnership for Human Development (PHD) supports the Government of Timor-Leste’s Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030 and reflects Australia’s commitment to work in partnership with Timor-Leste to invest in improved wellbeing for Timor-Leste’s people. PHD aims to deliver lasting impact on the program goal: ‘People in Timor-Leste are healthier, better-educated and better able to contribute to Timor-Leste’s development.’ Through PHD, Australia supports the Government of Timor-Leste (GoTL) to deliver higher quality and inclusive services in primary healthcare, basic education and social protection.

Abt Associates Australia is the implementation partner for PHD, contracted since May 2016 until May 2026.

 

The Opportunity

We are seeking a long-term Senior Officer – Translations to provide high quality communications in the areas of translations and interpretation services across the PHD program.

Working as part of a great team to provide high quality services, the Senior Officer will join the Communications Team and have primary responsibility for all translation and interpreting requirements as requested by the PHD Program teams or the Client. Collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders, the Senior Officer will undertake translation and interpreting tasks in-house as well as manage outsourced services.

 

About You

We are seeking an individual who will bring:


  • Proven experience in translation and interpretation services or similar role.
  • Experience in providing translation and interpretation services for a development program, with experience with an international agency advantageous.
  • General exposure to and understanding of key programmatic areas such as Health, Education, Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Gender, Disability, Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as across Government settings or ability to adapt and apply skills in a program setting to deliver services. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and language construct.
  • Exceptional communication and cross-cultural skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Tetum required; Fluency in Portuguese and/or Bahasa desired.
