Gender and Business Development Officer - Tourism Development Program (Dili)

 

Since 1992, The Asia Foundation has partnered with government, civil society and private sector partners to develop Timor-Leste and its people. We are working with local, district and national level government, civil society partners and communities to strengthen governance and policy, eliminate violence against women, enhance economic opportunities for women, and promote peace and justice in Timor-Leste.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a long-term partner to Timor-Leste’s ongoing development. The Gender and Business Development Officer (GBDO) will provide technical and strategic support on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) and business development of the Tourism Development Program (TDP). The GBDO will play an active role in supporting the implementation plan for TDP, including assisting with stakeholder consultation and engagement in program activities, and to ensure all the implementation of the activities are align with gender strageties and women-owned and women-led businesses are supported trhough the program implementation.

 

Key responsibilities


  • Lead mainstreaming of GESI strategies throughout all project components and activities;
  • Closely collaborate with team members to ensure implementation of project GESI plans, and assess GESI impact;
  • Support the Ministry of Tourism Commerce and Industry, business associations and tourism business towards ensuring GESI strategies are developed and implemented;
  • Assist with the development of women-owned tourism businesses including organizing training;
  • Technical support to and implementation of project activities;
  • Support the DTL and TL to manage budget projections and tracking of expenditures. 

 

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
  • Minimum four years of experience in the fields of business development, business management, economic development, tourism, gender equality and social inclusion and/or community-driven development;
  • Previous GESI-related professional experience, or previous business development experience;
  • Experience in working with, facilitating, coordinating, and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and Tetum;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with regularly shifting priorities;
  • Strong time management skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail;
  • Ability to self-manage, independently prioritize tasks, and confidently develop plans of action;
  • Willingness to travel to the districts.
