Job Opportunity: Senior Program Assistant - Tourism Development Program (Dili, with frequent travel to Aileu and Maubisse)
Since 1992, The Asia Foundation has partnered with government, civil society and private sector partners to develop Timor-Leste and its people. We are working with local, district and national level government, civil society partners and communities to strengthen governance and policy, eliminate violence against women, enhance economic opportunities for women, and promote peace and justice in Timor-Leste.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a long-term partner to Timor-Leste’s ongoing development. The Senior Program Assistant (SPA) will provide technical and local support, administrative, logistical, financial and program support to two components of the Tourism Development Program (TDP), including assisting with stakeholder consultation and engagement in program activities specifically in the Maubisse and Aileu regions. Engagement will include grant management, monitoring and evaluation, and implementation of specific program activities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical and local support for project activities;
- Support coordination with local leaders, WARDA (tourism working group in Maubisse), and Ministry of Tourism Commerce and Industry (MTCI) Focal Point in Maubisse and Aileu;
- Work with team members on data collection processes and coordination in Maubisse and Aileu;
- Conduct ongoing assessment of tourism supply and demand, while supporting local small business owners in tour package development and assist development of food and coffee tourism in destination region including organizing training;
- Engage district government authorities, private sector, and civil society and other relevant partners in Maubisse-Aileu in support of program activities;
- Provide administrative, logistical and administrative support to the TDP team.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
- At least three years of experience assisting development programs in Timor-Leste, in particular economic development, tourism, community-driven development, administration, logistics and finance;
- Work experience in working with district officials and civil society organizations, private sector actors from within the tourist economy and municipality-level community-based tourism entities;
- Experience in facilitating, coordinating, and communicating effectively;
- Experience and skills in office administration;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of database programs desirable;
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and Tetum;
- Ability to draft letters and formal documentation with appropriate language and branding;
- Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and develop action plans with minimal direction.
