Business Development Officer (BDO)

Tourism Development Program

 

Since 1992, The Asia Foundation has partnered with government, civil society and private sector partners to develop Timor-Leste and its people. We are working with local, district and national level government, civil society partners and communities to strengthen governance and policy, eliminate violence against women, enhance economic opportunities for women, and promote peace and justice in Timor-Leste.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a long-term partner to Timor-Leste’s ongoing development. The BDO will support the implementation of the Tourism Development Program (TDP), including stakeholder consultation and engagement in program activities in Dili, and Aileu & Maubisse regions.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities including working with tourism associations to design, implement and assess the effectiveness of tourism marketing strategies.
  • Organize business forums related to the tourism industry and Timorese tourism products.
  • Assist in the development of women-owned tourism businesses through training and capacity building. 
  • Support & maintain coordination with stakeholders in implementing business activities.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to conduct activities related to tourism business development.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge about business and its development practices. 
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Tourism Development Program. 

 

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. 
  • At least four years of experience assisting development programs in Timor-Leste.
  • Committed to working in a respectful and collaborative with individuals and organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to working in a multi-disciplinary team environment. 
  • Experience and skills in office administration.
  • Ability to self-manage, and able to communicate orally & in writing in English and Tetum. 
  • Strong time management skills and organizational abilities. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-tasking.
