The Maluk Timor TB Program's intended impact is to contribute to the reduction of TB in Timor-Leste, in line with the End TB Strategy, through intensified case finding in high-risk populations, education, and infection control.
Key activities include:
- Household Contact Tracing
- Cough Triage
- Strengthening referral feedback mechanism at the national hospital and 5 referral hospital
- TB Education and counselling
- Peer counselling and household contact tracing for MDR-TB

Position Summary
This position is responsible for clinical input into the TB Program, including programme development, clinical support (diagnosis and supporting care for TB patients), monitoring & evaluation, and training.
Key Functions
Key functions of Junior TB Doctor include:
Training
- Provide ongoing tuberculosis training to healthcare workers in MT’s Tuberculosis Team, in line with national and international guidelines.
- Support healthcare workers to develop their own training skills, and provide tuberculosis education to patients, the community, healthcare volunteers, and other healthcare workers.
- Support tuberculosis training to Timorese doctors, in line with national and international guidelines.
- Where required, provide training about other medical topics to healthcare workers and doctors.
- Where required, as per program activities, undertake field trips with expenses compensated.
Programme Development
- Work closely with the Tuberculosis Coordinator to give clinical input into ongoing programmes.
- Work with the Team Leader to ensure continued liaison with, and authorization from, relevant governing bodies regarding MT’s Tuberculosis Teams’ programmes.
Clinical Support
- Work alongside doctors from NGOs and the Ministry of Health for the diagnosis and care of patients with tuberculosis.
- Provide clinical support to healthcare workers in MT’s tuberculosis team.
- Work together with nurses, volunteer healthcare workers and doctors in tuberculosis facilities to improve systems, and subsequently the services provided.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Regularly liaise with MT’s Tuberculosis Sub-committee Lead to report progress and develop future plans.
- Undertake monitoring and evaluation for each programme as set out in each programme’s proposal.
- Ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
Selection Criteria: Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Medical degree
- At least 3 months' experience working in a TB programme
Desirable:
- Minimum 2 years post-graduate clinical experience
- Experience delivering training
- Diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene or equivalent post-graduate qualification
- Excellent communication and team working skills
- Competency in English
