About The Role
As
the Country Head, Timor Leste, you will be part of the Pacific
Leadership Team. You are expected to role model ANZ’s values and
represent ANZ’s interests in Timor Leste at all times.
You
will work with both country and matrix teams to represent ANZ and our
purpose in this important Pacific community, support and grow our
customer base and offering, promote an inclusive team culture, set
targets, maintain good governance and compliance, deliver revenue
outcomes, identify regional cost saving opportunities and deliver sound
capital returns. Where there are matters that could have regional
impacts, you will work with the Regional matrix and enablement heads as
appropriate.
This end-to-end remit is
expected to be reflected in a robust well-managed business and control
environment with a strong ANZ culture, effective business execution,
engaged staff and customers, purpose led leadership, and high
collaboration across all areas in-country and across the region, by:
- Ensuring the country stays aligned to the regional strategy, works within risk appetite and delivers on its commitments.
- Developing a culture that encourages speak up and is aligned to the broader Pacific culture.
- Closely engaging the relevant regional matrix and enablement heads (and their teams) in executing actions aligned to ANZ and Pacific strategies.
- Acting as a custodian of the bank’s reputation and the balance sheet.
As ANZ’s country representative, you are also the “face” of ANZ
in Timor Leste. You are responsible for our relationship and reputation
with our customers, local regulators, government officials, NGOs,
business associations and local community representatives. You will be a
strong conduit and communicator for ANZ information, whether policies,
strategic changes or performance updates in-country as well as to ANZ
about issues, risks and opportunities within Timor.

What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Proven senior leadership capability, demonstrating humility, strong values and role model behaviours.
- Ability to adapt your style and leadership approach to working in the Pacific and in Timor Leste.
- Strategic leadership and motivation of a highly skilled management team and workforce.
- Strong relationship skills and genuine care for staff and customers.
- Strong credit / risk knowledge, experience and assessment skills.
- Demonstrated ability to drive and deliver aspirational culture and ability to work across matrix and direct reporting line.
- Well managed and purposeful leader demonstrating the ability to run a well-managed business.
- Ability to build and manage complex, cross-cultural and senior relationships, both internally and externally.
- Strong ability to work as a team with peers and other functional heads to drive business outcomes.
- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with Chief Executives, Regulators, Government Offices, Finance Directors, Boards of Major Customers and the Media, via outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- Well established executive external networks and international expertise and experience is desirable (but not essential) – strong cultural agility.
- Organisational, political agility and self-awareness with flexibility to anticipate and adapt to changes within the industry or country.
