JOB VACANCY

Summary

DAI in association with Mundi Serviços (Mundi Consulting), Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) and Polytechnic University of Leiria, and the Klibur Mata Dalan Foundation, is implementing the MCA funded TALENT project. The project aims to improve learning outcomes of secondary students throughout Timor Leste, through teacher and school leader education and training. The Project is seeking to hire two consultants to work as English-Tetum and Tetum-English interpreter and translator. These are short term positons to support the team of specialists undertaking four assessments. 

These assessments are:

1. Secondary Education teacher Training Needs Assessment.
2. Secondary Education School Leaders Training Needs Assessment.
3. Institutional Capacity Assessment of Secondary Education Teacher Training Programs.
4. Rapid Assessment of Language and ICT Training Needs

The Consultants will accompany the team of consultants during their interviews and visits to schools, government offices, development partners offices and other locations throughout Timor-Leste.

Responsibilities

The Interpreter and Translator will:

• Support the team of DAI specialists faithfully and accurately interpreting from English to Tetum and Tetum to English during their interviews with key stakeholders.
• Support the team of DAI specialists faithfully and accurately translating documents. These documents will mostly include legislation and policy documents.
• Support the team of DAI specialists providing advice to ensure they build a respectful and productive rapport with their interlocutors.
• Provide operational support to the team of DAI specialists, especially when traveling outside of Dili, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the specialists.

Inputs ranging from a half (0.5) to a full working day or more will be provided on a call down basis from the overall allocation of up to 90 days. Specific timing for inputs shall be mutually agreed between the interpreter/translator and Team Leader. Once agreed, inputs shall be confirmed in writing in advance by the Team Leader and captured in a monthly consultant timesheet.

Selection Criteria

• Proven experience as English-Tetum and Tetum-English Interpreter.
• Proven experience as English-Tetum and Tetum-English translator.
• Proven experience supporting technical consultants and researchers in field visits and interviews.
• Knowledge of Timorese education sector will be an advantage.
• Knowledge of Portuguese will be an advantage 
• Excellent verbal communication skills in English and Tetum.
