Ho Musan Ida (HMI) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Timor-Leste that focuses on sustainable development, environmental conservation, and community empowerment. HMI works primarily in the areas of reforestation, agroforestry, and sustainable agriculture, aiming to improve the livelihoods of rural communities while protecting the environment. Through its projects, HMI combats deforestation, and enhances food security by working closely with local farmers, women, and youth. The organisation also prioritises capacity-building and education to ensure that communities have the knowledge and skills to manage their natural resources sustainably, contributing to long-term resilience and environmental sustainability in Timor-Leste.
Ho Musan Ida (HMI) will appoint the right person to be its Finance Manager
Selection Criteria will be based on:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is an advantage
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
- Experience managing grants and contracts, particularly those funded by international donors (e.g., European Union, USAID, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience working with budgets, financial reporting, and compliance in a similar role
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial staff and stakeholders.
- Fluency in Tetum is required; knowledge of English and Portuguese is an advantage.

Working conditions
- Location: The Finance Manager will be based at the main office in Baguia, Baucau, Timor-Leste, with regular travel to Dili expected (3 weeks in Baguia and 1 Week in Dili)
- Contract Duration: Fixed-term with the possibility for extension based on performance and funding.
- Salary and Benefits: Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
- Be based in Baguia for three weeks each month. On the fourth week, they would travel to Dili to work from the FRM office, settling social security, handling banking, submitting reports to FRM/xpand, and organising any necessary tasks in Dili. This schedule should be consistent and set in advance so the team in Baguia can plan around their absence.
- Play a key role not only in improving HMI’s financial systems but also in training the core finance and admin team. The goal is for them to build capacity over the next two years so they can eventually manage the department independently.
- Work closely with our highly committed team in Baguia, who are eager to strengthen their financial management skills with the right training, guidance and support for this person.
- Have some level of English proficiency, as they will collaborate with HMI partners based in Australia on financial matters.
