POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based Dili, Timor-Leste
CI’s work in Timor-Leste began in 2009, followed by the establishment of our office in 2012. Our work aims to improve local food security, fight climate change, and enhance livelihoods primarily through the establishment of a functioning national protected area network. We are working directly with government and local communities to research, implement, and improve the management of protected areas on land and at sea, through national parks and no-take zones. Through a blend of science, policy, and fieldwork, we further provide innovative solutions to key environmental issues such as unsustainable fishing practices, deforestation, and climate change teams.
The communications coordinator responsibilities will be developing a communications plan for the Timor-Leste country program, writing media releases, writing, and updating online and social media pages and websites, including Cl blogs, supporting proposal writing, and donor and technical reports. The job also includes backstopping the program field team in understanding, creating, and implementing various reports and articles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsiblities:
- Develop and implement a communications plan for the country program.
- Maintains internal communication channels between the region and the country program.
- Communicate effort and outreach campaigns across all projects under the direction of the Country Director, Deputy Country Manager, and Project Managers.
- Write and publish content for the CI website, blogs, newsletters, and any other publication within Cl.
- Create and manage country program social media content and accounts.
- Develop and disseminate public relations material that increases the visibility of Cl among stakeholders and other organizations.
- Contribute to regular monitoring efforts and capture project successes in relation to the annual work plan.
- Measure and report on the effectiveness of communications activities.
- Provide communications support to the Management team for events and high-level workshops.
- Assist with other external and internal communications duties as needed.
- Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with Media outlets (TV, radio, print) in Timor-Leste preferred.
- Graphic Design, photography, and/or video production, editing skills, a great writer high advantageous.
- Knowledge and a sound level of Portuguese is an advantage.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Typical office environment.
- Willingness to occasionally work extended hours for special events or related activities.
- This role is a fixed-term assignment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 2 to 4 years of recent work experience in communications or a relevant field with an international agency or NGO.
- Prior experience developing and implementing Communication Strategies and Plans.
- Extensive experience in producing communication products and content in a variety of formats.
- Experience in managing social media platforms.
- Outstanding organizational and planning abilities.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills as well as a high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and partners in a team setting.
- Demonstrated level of working with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, or relevant field.
- Knowledge of SAP and Business World.
