Position : AGRICULTURE EXTENSION FACILITATOR

Remuneration Range : Officer Level – Range determined according to experience

POSITION PURPOSE

The Agriculture Extension Facilitators directly works with famers/farmer groups and local partners related to agriculture production. The main responsibility is to help the farmer groups to make better decision and practices to increase agriculture production, particularly of selected products including ginger, coconut, candlenut, red rice, and cacao.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and implement the village level intervention of Viqueque Sustainable Health, Agriculture Protection and Empowerment (SHAPE) Development Project in his/her portfolio.
• Facilitate soil testing and analysis.
• Facilitate the selection of farmer groups.
• Serve as a group facilitator to convene or intervene with groups that need a neutral facilitator to help the group identify, solve problems and /or make decisions.
• Facilitate Farmer Field School (FFS) and trainings in improved agriculture and post-harvest practices including conservation agriculture, agroforestry, and cultivation practices of selected products (but not limited to) such as ginger, candle nut, and coconut.
• Provide consultation with farmers and farmer groups on agricultural and post-harvest practices. In these consultations, the facilitator give talks, guidance and actual demonstration on the latest/innovative agriculture practices.
• Plan and implement program for propagation and expansion of areas cultivating target products including the establishment and maintenance of nurseries.
• Collect monitoring data with farmer groups in a collaborative and systematic way
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with MAF Extension Agents and other relevant stakeholders.
• Attend seminars and also work with other experts in agriculture to learn more or even develop new methods that could advance production.
• Work closely with the Agro-Enterprise Facilitator to coordinate an integrated approach to value chain development.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCY

Essential

• Diploma in Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or Agro Forestry
• Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience as agriculture extension worker
• Strong technical knowledge and skills in agriculture and agroforestry.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to build good working relationships.
• Self-motivated and team player.
• Ability to be flexible, creative, and able to work well in challenging environments.
• Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Able to ride motorcycle and have valid license
