English/Tetum/Portuguese Interpreter and Translator - The Defence Cooperation Program in Timor-Leste (DCP-TL)

The Defence Cooperation Program in Timor-Leste (DCP-TL) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to fill the position as an English/Tetum/Portuguese Interpreter and Translator, working with Australian Military Advisors and able to travel to Hera on a daily basis and to municipalities when required.

The Defence Cooperation Program in Timor-Leste (DCP-TL) is an Australian Defence Program in Timor-Leste which promotes the capacity of the F-FDTL, improves Australia’s capacity to work with F-FDTL in response to common security challenges.

DCP-TL also builds strong people-to-people links with F-FDTL at the tactical, operational and strategic levels in order to maximise Australia’s security.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate achievement against the following selection criteria:

  • Have sufficient experience and ability to interpret and translate documents from English to Tetum and to Portuguese, and vice versa;
  • Have a general knowledge about F-FDTL and Component Naval in particular.
  • Demonstrated strong self-confidence in providing interpretation in formal meetings;
  • Able to work with limited supervision and can work under pressure;
  • Proactive, flexible and understanding both Australian and Timorese culture.

Applicants should also have the following qualifications and/or experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications,
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Tetum and Portuguese;
  • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office computer applications.

The salary for the position is USD$ 1,378 per month

Status of Contract: Short Term (20th July 2021 – 1st December 2021)

Human Resources Development Manager position (Locally Engaged staff, Level 5)

The Australian Embassy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to fill a Human Resources Development Manager position (Locally Engaged staff, Level 5) with the Timor-Leste Police Development Program (TLPDP).  The selection criteria are as follows.

 

  • Previous experience working in Human Resources, and the ability to review and apply legislation.
  • Formal Degree in Business Management/Human Resources would be a strong advantage.
  • Ability to clearly interpret and translate concepts and issues between English and Tetun in a variety of settings including adult training classrooms, conferences, and committee meetings.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Confident written and spoken communication skills in English and Tetun.
  • Ability to prioritise work, meet task deadlines and produce accurate work.
  • Sound skills in computer systems including document creation and formatting, databases, and presentation slides.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology.
  • Experience and/or appreciation of gender equality issues.

 

The following qualifications and/or experience are highly desirable:

  • Degree in Business Management and/or Human Resources would be a strong advantage.
  • Previous experience working in Human Resources, and the experience reviewing and interpreting legislation.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Tetun (Portuguese would be an advantage).
  • Strong computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office and a variety of HRM databases.

The salary - for this position is USD$19,210 per annum.
