The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as central in the United Nation’s global development network, is mandated to take upon an advisory role in driving the Sustainable Development Agenda, based on Member State’s priorities and each country context. Currently, the UNDP is present in 170 countries.
 
UNDP is working with the Government of Timor-Leste to support the development of ICT education in secondary and vocational schools. The project aims to improve general secondary and technical vocational education by providing students and teachers in Timor-Leste with the required infrastructure, curriculum, and human capacities for ICT education.
 
UNDP is looking for an enthusiastic person for the position of Driver for the project.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
The Driver will be responsible for day-to-day driving service as well as support logistics during meetings and workshops under the direct supervision and guidance of the Admin and Finance Associate.
 
Summary of Key Functions:
  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services.
  • Proper use of vehicles.
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle.
  • Availability of documents/ supplies.
  • Logistic support.

Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by a) driving project vehicles for the transport of Project staff, other authorized officials, and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items, and b) meeting authorized official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required. c) Accompany project staff on field trips to the villages or to other municipalities when required. d) support project staff during workshops and field trips, facilitate their movements, and assist with photocopying and other related duties needed by them.

Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. Ensure the day-to-day running and maintenance of the assigned vehicle; check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.

Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. Perform some minor repairs and arrange to have major repairs done to ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition.

Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle. Maintain the daily movement log for all the daily mileage, gas/fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing and other services, and timely annual vehicle inspection and registration with the Ministry of Transport, etc.

Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Perform any other tasks as required by the PM and designated officer.

Required Skills and Experience
 
Education:
  • At least Secondary level education with a valid driving license; qualification in motor vehicle mechanics.
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of motor vehicle driving experience, part of it acquired in the UN System or International NGOs.
  • Considerable knowledge of local conditions in all territories in Dili and other municipalities.
  • The applicant should possess self-initiative, independence, sound judgment, flexibility, service-oriented qualities, and good interpersonal skills. Should possess a positive attitude.
  • Must be Reliable and punctual.

Language Recruitment : 

  • Tetum and basic English language

Travel :

  • Willing to travel any municipalities in Timor-Leste if required.
