The Australian Embassy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to fill a Language Assistant position (Locally Engaged staff, Level 4) with the Timor-Leste Police Development Program (TLPDP). The selection criteria are as follows.
- Demonstrated fluency in written translation and oral interpretation of English to Tetun to English.
- Ability to clearly interpret and translate concepts and issues from English to Tetun and Tetun to English in a variety of settings including adult training classrooms, conferences, and committee meetings.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
- Confident oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise work, meet task deadlines and produce accurate work.
- Sound skills in computer systems including document creation and formatting, databases, and presentation slides.
- Familiarity with legal terminology.
- Experience and / or appreciation for working within the gender equality space.
The following qualifications and/or experience are highly desirable:
- Diploma level qualifications in English and/ or law and/ or at least two years’ experience providing interpreter/translator services.
- A high level of fluency, both orally and in writing, in Tetun and English.
- Language skills in Portuguese and/ or Bahasa Indonesian would be an advantage.
- Language skills in Maritime sector terminology would be an advantage.
The salary for this position is USD13,604 Per annum
