Other Information: A working with Children Check and a Criminal History Check are required to be undertaken for this position.

 

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT 

ChildFund Timor-Leste is the representative office of ChildFund Australia – an independent international development organisation that works to reduce poverty for children in developing communities.

ChildFund Australia is a member of the ChildFund Alliance – a global network of 12 organisations which assists almost 23 million children and their families in 70 countries. ChildFund Australia is a registered charity, a member of the Australian Council for International Development, and fully accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade which manages the Australian Government’s overseas aid program.

ChildFund began work in Timor-Leste in 1990, originally under the management of ChildFund International. Since October 2017 it has operated as an office of ChildFund Australia and works in partnership to create community and systems change which enables vulnerable children and young people, in all their diversity, to assert and realise their rights.

ChildFund Timor-Leste’s projects focus on maternal and child health, nutrition, early childhood development, education, youth empowerment and disaster preparedness. ChildFund Timor-Leste aims to demonstrate effectiveness and accountability in its program activities and add value to the efforts of its partners through quality programs that are respectful, responsive, and relevant in helping children in poverty, their families, and communities.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of the position is to support the implementation of ChildFund teacher training and literacy activities in particularly focusing on the planning and implementation of the intervention components including digital library (e-learning), parenting education and community engagement approaches in Manatuto municipality. The Education field Officer will provide close monitoring to the target schools and communities where e-learning parenting education sessions are implemented including maintain monthly activity work plan tracking and progress reporting. Under supervision of the project manager and with support from the Education Officer, he/she will maintain close collaboration with teachers and parenting champions for the successful implementation of the e-learning and parenting components.

 

KEY DUTIES

  • Responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring of the e-learning and parenting education activities in Manatuto Municipality.
  • Work closely with parenting champions to mobilize parents to participant in the monthly parenting education sessions.
  • Assist in organizing trainings and activities for identified parenting champions and grade 1-4 teachers.
  • Responsible for the successful implementation of parenting education, community engagement and children access to tablet in schools.
  • Prepare activity and monitoring reports and submit to the Education Project Officer.
  • Participate in the preparation of annual, quarterly, monthly project work plans and reports.
  • Assist in survey tasks (baseline and end line survey) and research studies to monitor and evaluate of the project.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly coordination meetings at district and sub-district level.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Education project Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years’ progressive experience in the implementation of Education projects, community mobilization/outreach experience is required.
  • University degree (equivalent) in education studies or related field from a recognized institution is preferred.
  • Fluency in Tetum is required. Ability to read and write in English is an added advantage.  
  • Ability and willingness to work in the community and motivate teachers, parenting champions and parenting groups is required.
  • Valid motorcycle licence
