Job Title: Field Project Assistant
Term: 1 year with possibility for extension

Conservation International has been awarded a regional project under the Kiwa Initiative entitled “Restoring Ecosystems for Sustainable, Transformative and Resilient Communities (RESTORE).” The project aims to Strengthen the adaptive capacity and economic resilience of Pacific Islanders – specifically to improve shoreline stability, coastal protection, and sustainable livelihoods – through Nature-based Solutions focused on community-based ecosystem restoration in Fiji, Samoa and Timor-Leste. 

The Project Assistant will work closely under direct supervision of KIWA Field Project Manager implementing all project related activities in Bobonaro Municipality within timeline and resources available. Establish strong partnership with communities, and stakeholders and engaging regular/periodic monitoring with M& E coordinator, GIS coordinator and KIWA Field Project Manager to strengthen data collection and evidence-based reporting for donor/organizational reporting. Support Consultants, subcontractors during their implementations within the projects. Identify and priority activities with community groups as per project workplan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and assist the Timor Leste KIWA Field Project Manager in ensuring effective and efficient implementation of all project’s activity assigned to this position, including coordination with Government, Local Communities and Stakeholders of Bobonaro Municipality.
  • Work closely KIWA-Project Manager in developing the project’s detailed workplan and reporting against theprogression of the workplans.
  • Work closely with the KIWA-Manager in developing and strategizing the implementation of planned activities and initiate on site interaction with (Aidabaleten, Sanirin and Batugade in Bobonaro Municipality) targeted communities and project partners of target municipality.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluating the implementation and impact of project activities.
  • Work with the Operations team to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of CI equipment and resources while applying internal systems, structures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support an organizational culture that reflects our full spectrum programming values, theory of change, promotes accountability and high performance, encourages a team culture of learning, creativity, and innovation.
  • Support in facilitating field level assessments, learning and sharing on key issues for advocacy, adoption and/or replication of best practices.
  • Liaise with communities and local authorities on a day-to-day basis and ensure active engagement of stakeholders to mobilize resources, and coordinate activities in target municipality.
  • Successfully submit on time monthly and Quarterly reports to Supervisor.
  • Collect data and information from the target municipality and providing input in the completion of the progress reports and potential projects.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School or Secondary School education or bachelor’s degree in relevant field will be an advantage.• Experience working with coastal communities with projects related to mangroves and costal ecosystem, climate change adaptation, conservation of biodiversity, coastal management, and rural livelihoods.
  • Substantial skills and field experience of monitoring and evaluation, capacity building.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Up to 2 years of related work experience, preferably in the conservation, NGO, or advocacy arena.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, web research, and related skills.
  • Detailed oriented and able to prioritize, manage and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.
  • Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment

PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Does not manage staff, not accountable for an operating budget, or managing public or private funds

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Field level experience in Climate change adaptation or costal livelihoods projects are advantage.
  • Knowledge of English language is an advantage.
  • Can drive a Motorbike and owned valid driver license.
  • Familiar with socio-economic and environmental conditions of coastal sucos of Bobonaro Municaplity.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is based in Bobonaro Municaplity with occasional travel to Dili and other field offices as per need of the project.
