POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Dili, Timor-Leste

The Field Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the implementation of project activities in the Talau-Loes and Mota Masin basins. They will oversee field operations, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure the effective supervision of Field Assistants to achieve the project’s objectives and outcomes. They will also facilitate community engagement, support the Technical Lead, and ensure timely reporting of field-level progress.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Field Supervision and Coordination:

  • Lead and supervise the work of two Field Assistants to ensure efficient delivery of project activities in both project areas.
  • Plan and monitor day-to-day field activities, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the Field Assistants, ensuring quality implementation of activities.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Coordinate with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate collaborative project implementation.
  • Support the Joint Forestry Working Group (JFWG) in improving capacity for data and information sharing with communities and government agencies
  • Represent the project in community and stakeholder meetings, ensuring clear communication of project goals and activities.

Support Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA):

  • Assist in data collection and field assessments for the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) to enable planning and strengthen ecosystem management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of field data to inform the development of the Strategic Action Plan (SAP)

Implementation of Strategic Action Plan (SAP):

  • Facilitate field-level activities outlined in the SAP to guide transboundary watershed management.
  • Oversee the testing of agriculture, soil, and water management practices, providing feedback for SAP refinement.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor the progress of field activities, ensuring alignment with the project’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the Project Manager and Technical Lead, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the M&E program by collecting relevant data and supporting adaptive management processes.

Knowledge Sharing and Communication:

  • Document and share lessons learned, best practices, and field results with stakeholders and the JFWG.
  • Contribute to the project’s knowledge management, including sharing results with the IW: Learn platform and supporting the design of future scaling-up plans.

Key deliverables:

  • Detailed work plans and schedules for field activities.
  • Monthly and quarterly progress reports, including field data and stakeholder engagement updates.
  • Contributions to the TDA and SAP development, including field-testing results.
  • Documentation of lessons learned and best practices for knowledge sharing.
  • Active participation in stakeholder and community meetings

Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 75% field work. May need to work extended hours as needed.
  • This role will be a fixed-term assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 2 to 4 years of related work experience, preferably in the conservation, NGO, or advocacy arena. Demonstrated experience developing and managing workplans and budgets.
  • Demonstrated in-field experience working with communities.
  • Sound experience of working on environmental and community development issues either in an NGO or the public or private sector.
  • Substantial skills and understanding of monitoring and evaluation and building capacity.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and partners in a team setting.
  • Specific expertise in aspects of community development through biodiversity protection and sustainable livelihoods.
  • Needs to be passionate about the environment and the long-term sustainability of natural resources to support healthy communities.
  • Advanced English and Tetum language skills are required.
  • Women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Preferred

  • A Science Degree in Conservation, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Protected Areas, Biodiversity, or Fisheries; or be able to demonstrate successful experience in understanding Environmental Resource Management issues and applying science.
