Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Accountant to join our growing finance team. This is a critical role that combines financial management with a strong customer-service focus. You will work closely with students, staff, and management across multiple campuses in Dili, managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash handling, and supporting the Operations Manager on HR-related financial activities. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable working in a dynamic, student-centric environment.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Financial Record Management & Systems: Maintain accurate financial records using MYOB or Xero accounting software, demonstrating proficiency in Excel including formulas and data analysis for financial reporting and reconciliation.
  2. Accounts Receivable Management: Manage Accounts Receivable (AR) including invoicing, tracking, and professional follow-up with students and corporate clients to chase overdue payments through courteous and effective communication.
  3. Accounts Payable & Payment Processing: Process Accounts Payable (AP) including purchase order management, invoice processing, and payment scheduling to ensure timely and accurate vendor payments.
  4. Cash & Bank Management: Handle daily cash management including cash receipts, petty cash reconciliation, bank reconciliations, and preparation of accurate bank deposits, resolving any discrepancies promptly.
  5. Financial Reporting & Administrative Support: Prepare financial reports and statements as required by management and assist the Operations Manager with HR-related financial activities such as payroll administration, leave accrual tracking, and employee benefit management.
  6. Compliance, Multi-Campus Operations & Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure all financial processes comply with ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and ISO 21001 (Education Management System) guidelines, while traveling between Dili campuses to support financial operations and meet with stakeholders.
  7. Customer Service Excellence: Ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, parents, and staff while managing sensitive financial matters
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in accounting or financial administration roles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
  • Strong knowledge of MYOB or Xero (required); experience with both is advantageous
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles (AR, AP, reconciliation, cash handling)
  • Excellent numerical and mathematical skills
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities, with attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
