As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been operating in Timor-Leste since 1999 and has implemented numerous projects in a range of technical fields such as economic development, employment promotion, peace building or civil conflict transformation. It also supports the development of the Timorese maritime sector. Therein, GIZ works closely with Timorese governmental and non-governmental partners.

GIZ is looking for a National Expert for social media, communication and visibility  in projects implemented by GIZ. There are currently 3 GIZ-implemented projects and various single measures. Ai ba Futuru is a project financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the European Union and is supporting the establishment of agroforests in 40 sucos.

ATMI is financed by BMZ and supporting the development of the maritime sector in Timor-Leste and establishing a maritime training center. The project Youth 4 Change has its office in Baucau and is supporting youth centers, youth promotors and an intergeneration dialogue. 

Position: National Expert for social media, communication and visibility
Duty Station: Dili
Contract duration: 18 months (till 28. Feb 2023)
Start date: Mid of August 2021

  1. Tasks

The national expert for social media, communication and visibility will perform the following tasks:

  • Develop, update and maintain a social media plan, specifically for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Continuous update of the guideline to deal with critical situations on social media
  • Conduct trainings on social media for national staff
  • Prepare social media posts in English and Tetun
  • Answer the questions on social media in consultation with project advisor
  • Ensure a high quality of posts prepared by colleagues
  • Establish and maintain a picture database in accordance with GIZ rules
  • Assist in the development of other communication and visibility material and in the preparation and coverage of events (both in Dili and the Eastern municipalities)
  • Translation of texts for publication from English to Tetun and vice versa
  1. Required qualifications, competences and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, communication or a related field
  • Experience in the cooperation with an international organization
  • Experience in the management of social media and/ or in the development of communication and visibility material
  • Excellent language skills (in written and orally) in English and Tetun is a must
