Background
KOKOSA! (a Timorese adaptation of the SASA! methodology) is a community-based violence against women prevention intervention. KOKOSA! (Komesa Konxieìnsia Suporta Asaun / Start Awareness Support Action) takes a benefits-based approach to violence prevention and encourages community members to think about the positive effects of balancing power in relationships between women and men. Using simple, fun, dialogue-based techniques, KOKOSA! works with community members to rethink power in their lives and relationships in order to create the change necessary to prevent violence against women.
Summary of Assignment
We are seeking to contract an individual to provide ongoing support to activities under the NABILAN Program’s KOKOSA! work in Suku Letefoho, Manufahi. KOKOSA! Nabilan is working with 22 community mobilizers and activists in Letefoho, Manufahi, community leaders and 8 members of a drama group to mobilise the community through various activities with their neighbours and through existing community groups and networks.
Number of days
Maximum of 20 days per calendar month over three (3) months. A workplan/schedule for each week will be decided in advance with the KOKOSA! Program Officer.
Responsibilities
- Develop a weekly plan of activities with the KOKOSA! Program Officer.
- Support the community mobilizers, activists and drama group members with mentoring, monitoring and administrative support as required.
- Facilitate and support community discussion activities.
- Participate in meetings, trainings, workshops, and other activities.
- Support the KOKOSA! Program Officer with administrative and other tasks as required.
Requirements
- Minimum bachelor’s degree with four (4) years of experience in the relevant field.
- Knowledge and experience working on gender-related issues, including violence against women prevention.
- Experience facilitating community discussions and mobilizing communities.
- Embody the values and principles of the Nabilan Program and KOKOSA! – including respectful communication, positive use of power, commitment to gender equality and prevention of violence in all forms.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Tetun.
Timeframe
Three months (June 2022 – August 2022) with possibility of extension.
