Early Childhood Education Project Field Assistant – Lautem Municipality - ChildFund Timor-Leste

Employment: Full-time, Initial one-year employment agreement, with option to extend upon mutual agreement.

Reports to: ChildFund Timor-Leste ECD Project coordinator.

Other Information: provide regular progress updates on projects implementation, emerging issues and opportunities and a Criminal History Check are required to be undertaken for this position.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This position will be responsible for the successful implementation and monitoring of the community-based preschool (CBPS) centers field activities working under the supervision of the ECD Coordinator. You will provide on-going support to School Management Committees and preschool facilitators in all aspects of CBPS operations and activity implementations and ensure timely data collection at CBPS. You will support community mobilization and work closely with SMC and parents in the delivery of community education sessions. You will adhere to ChildFund’s policies, project requirements and standard of CBPS programming This project is implemented in two municipalities: Lautem and Liquica. The current vacancy is for a position in Lautem Municipality

 

KEY DUTIES

  • Responsible for the implementation, and monitoring of the Early Childhood Education Project in Lautem Municipality.
  • Support capacity building of SMC members, parents, community leaders, Community-based Preschool (CBPS) Facilitators,
  • Responsible for the mentoring of SMC’s in the successful operation of the CBPS and implementation of School Improvement Plans (SIP), working closely with community leaders, SMCs and facilitators.
  • Liaise with relevant ministries (MoE and MoH) at both District and sub-district levelto train and deliver of education sessions for ECD Facilitators, Parents and Caregivers.
  • Prepare activity reports and monitoring formats and submit to the ECD Coordinator.
  • Participate in the preparation of annual, quarterly, monthly project work plans and reports.
  • Assist in survey tasks (baseline and end line survey) and research studies to monitor and evaluate of the project.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly coordination meetings at district and sub-district level.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the ECD Coordinator and Education Project Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years’ progressive experience in the implementation of Education projects, community mobilization/outreach experience is required.
  • University degree (equivalent) in education studies or related field from a recognized institution is preferred.
  • Fluency in Tetum and Fataluku. Ability to read and write in English is an added advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to work in the community, frequent visits to target villages and motivate SMC’s and ECD facilitators.
  • Valid Motorcycle license

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in implementing community level nutrition and health work and community economic activities/livelihood.
  • Previous work with preschool system or playgroups will be an advantage.
