Environmental Health Officer
Star King Medical Centre (SKMC) is an upcoming private hospital in Timor-Leste, with the capacity of up to 60 beds, and is focusing on the following service areas:
- Emergency care;
- Outpatient and inpatient care;
- Executive checkups;
- Intensive care services;
- Imageology, including CT angiography & MRI;
- Clinical Laboratory & Anatomical pathology;
- Medical services;
- Surgical services, including minimally invasive surgery;
- Endoscopy and colonoscopy.
SKMC is looking looking for an Environmental Health Officer in a hospital setting ensures a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This involves monitoring and enforcing health and hygiene standards, investigating potential health hazards, and developing strategies to mitigate risks.
Responsibilities:
Ø Monitoring and Enforcement:- Regularly inspects the hospital's environment to ensure compliance with health and hygiene regulations.
- Ensures proper waste management, sanitation, and pest control practices are followed.
- Monitors air and water quality, and food safety practices within the hospital.
- Enforces relevant environmental health legislation and policies.
- Identifies potential hazards and risks to public health within the hospital.
- Develops and implements plans to mitigate identified risks, such as infection control measures.
- Conducts investigations of incidents like food poisoning outbreaks or potential water contamination.
- Provides training to hospital staff on environmental health practices and procedures.
- Educates patients and visitors on relevant health and safety measures.
- Develops and disseminates educational materials related to environmental health.
- Liaises with hospital management, staff, and relevant external agencies on environmental health matters.
- Advises on environmental health aspects of hospital planning and development.
- Reports on environmental health issues and interventions to relevant stakeholders.
- May be involved in the management of the hospital's autoclave (sterilization).
- May assist in the development and implementation of the hospital's emergency preparedness plan.
- Keeps up-to-date with relevant environmental health legislation and best practices in Timor-Leste.
- A bachelor's degree in environmental health, public health, or a related field is typically required.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in environmental health is highly desirable
- Relevant certifications or licensures may be necessary depending on the jurisdiction.
- Strong knowledge of environmental health regulations and standards is essential.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are crucial.
- Ability to analyse data, write reports, and conduct inspections is also important.
